Assistant General Manager - Procurement (Steel/mining)

Experience Required: 15-20 Years Notice Period: 30 Days Outstation Candidates Allowed Roles & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Lead strategic procurement and sourcing across materials, equipment and services. Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with business and project requirements. Identify, evaluate and manage vendors and strategic suppliers. Drive cost optimisation, negotiations and commercial excellence. Manage purchase contracts, commercial terms and supplier performance. Ensure timely procurement and availability of materials while maintaining quality and cost objectives. Build strong supplier relationships and develop alternate/backup sources. Monitor procurement budgets, savings and key procurement KPIs. Collaborate with Projects, Operations, Finance, Stores and Engineering teams to align procurement plans with business requirements. Ensure compliance with procurement policies, processes and governance standards. Lead and mentor the procurement team. Ideal Candidate 1 Strong Procurement Leadership Profile from Steel / Mining / heavy-industry background 2 Mandatory (Experience 1): Must have 15+ years of overall procurement experience, with the recent 7+ years in Steel, Mining, Metals, or related heavy industries 3 Mandatory (Experience 2): Must have strong experience in strategic sourcing, vendor management, negotiations, and cost reduction 4 Mandatory (Experience 3): Must have experience managing large-value procurement and complex supplier ecosystems 5 Mandatory (Experience 4): Must have experience developing and executing procurement strategies aligned with business and project requirements 6 Mandatory (Experience 5): Must have experience managing purchase contracts, commercial terms, and supplier performance, and developing alternate/backup sources 7 Mandatory (Experience 6): Must have proven ability to lead and mentor procurement teams and drive measurable savings. 8 Mandatory (Skill 1): Must have strong commercial, analytical, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally (Projects, Operations, Finance, Stores, Engineering) 9 Mandatory (Skill 2): Must have experience monitoring procurement budgets, savings, and key procurement KPIs, and ensuring compliance with procurement policies and governance 10 Mandatory (Industry): Must come from a Steel or Mining industry background (Metals / heavy industry acceptable) 11 Mandatory (Education): B.Tech is mandatory 12 Mandatory (Note): This role is for the Indian Subsidiary of AIG - Afrzen
